Its French title, *Mon cher foyer*, translates roughly as "My dear hearth," and the poster casts a poilu, the nickname for a French infantryman, as speaking fondly to the home he left behind. Lawrence Harris signed the lithograph and dated it 1918, the final year of the war, when soldiers relied on rest huts and canteens near the front for comfort. The credit to the United States Food Administration, a wartime agency that managed food supplies, points to the cooperation between American and French relief efforts. The forest setting noted in the record suggests the wooded landscapes where many such soldiers were posted.
