Bain News Service caption information gives this view its title, "Wharf at Algiers," though that data has not been verified and the record gives no date. Algiers may refer to the riverfront district across from New Orleans, a working area of cargo and ferry landings, or to the North African city, so the location is worth confirming. The Bain News Service was a New York picture agency that sold news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Its nitrate negatives are fragile and flammable, so this one's survival is worth noting.
