Roosevelt appears here in a head-and-shoulders study turned toward the left, a pose that keeps his face in clear profile-leaning view and gives the portrait a composed, deliberate feel. The record dates it to about 1932, the year he won the Democratic nomination and then the presidency, when his image was being carefully shaped for a national audience. The Library of Congress holds it in the Prints and Photographs Division, and it carries a U.S. Copyright Office notation, a reminder that such portraits were often registered and circulated widely as the campaign drew attention to him.
