Few pictures in this collection document a commercial firm rather than a street or monument, which makes this glass negative of the Lanman Engraving Co. unusual. The title comes from notes the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve and has not been independently verified, while the date of 1910 to 1926 is inferred from neighboring negatives. The National Photo Company, based in Washington, D.C., produced a large body of commercial and civic photography, and this collection reached the Library of Congress as a gift in 1947. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the gradual deterioration of its original coatings, so they are worth keeping in mind when reading the image.
