Jefferson Market Courthouse stands out for its steep Gothic Revival towers and clock, set at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Tenth Street in Greenwich Village. Designed by Frederick Clarke Withers and Calvert Vaux and completed in 1877, the building housed a courthouse upstairs and a public market on its ground floor. Made around 1905 by the Detroit Publishing Company, this glass negative also captures the elevated railroad along Sixth Avenue, a reminder of how crowded the street was with trains before the line was torn down in the late 1930s.
