The tall, narrow sheet, about 208 by 109 centimeters, and the caption "Old Hurricane" set this 1884 poster apart from the other theater bills on the board. It advertises the Whiteleys Original Hidden Hand Company, a touring troupe built around E.D.E.N. Southworth's popular 1859 novel *The Hidden Hand*, which had been serialized in the *New York Ledger* and was widely adapted for the stage. The color woodcut was produced by J. B. Jeffery, a Chicago printer, and it reflects how traveling companies in the 1880s relied on bold, eye-catching posters to draw audiences to town.
