Corn shocks, bundled stalks of harvested corn stood upright in a field to dry, anchor this scene of late-season farmland. The image is a color halftone reproduction of a painting by Edwin Lamasure, an American artist whose work circulated widely in commercial prints. Around 1910, the halftone process let printers reproduce paintings like this one cheaply in large runs, so pictures of rural abundance reached homes, calendars and advertisements across the country. The title, "Nature's Bounty," reflects the harvest-season theme that made such images popular for autumn and Thanksgiving displays.
