Its slogan, "Prosperity at home, prestige abroad," packs two central promises of late-1890s American politics into one line: economic recovery after the Panic of 1893 and a more assertive role for the United States in the world. The poster is a color lithograph by the Northwestern Litho. Co. of Milwaukee, and its date of 1895 to 1900 comes from an old caption card that has not been independently verified. Campaign posters like this were meant to be seen on streets and in shop windows, so their bold color and short text did most of the persuading.
