The title names a single person, Ellis Dresel, and the record is the only source for that identification. The Bain News Service, a New York picture agency, supplied its news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and its glass negatives were later donated to the Library of Congress as the George Grantham Bain Collection. Because the title comes from the agency's own caption cards and is unverified, the sitter's identity and the occasion are best treated as open questions. The glass negative format itself was standard for press work of that era and gives the print its characteristic sharp detail.
