The record identifies this glass negative with a dirigible called *La Ville de Paris*, though that title comes from unverified data supplied by the Bain News Service and no date is recorded. The name points to a French semi-rigid airship of the early 1900s, one of several craft built with backing from the Lebaudy sugar fortune as aviators tried to make steerable balloons practical. The Bain News Service, a New York picture agency active from about 1900 into the 1920s, sold images of such novelties to newspapers, so the plate likely reflects the press interest in airships of that era. The specific identification should be treated as provisional.
