Rather than an illustration, this is the title page of a book, and that sets it apart from the portraits of Franklin elsewhere on the board. It introduces *Experiments and Observations on Electricity*, published in London by E. Cave in 1751. The volume gathered letters Franklin had written from Philadelphia to his English correspondent Peter Collinson, who shared them with the Royal Society. In print, Franklin's ideas about electrical charge, including his terms "positive" and "negative," reached scientists across Europe. The record gives no date beyond the 1751 imprint.
