The title page of *Poor Richard* for 1743 is a printed announcement rather than a picture, giving the almanac's year and its Philadelphia imprint under Benjamin Franklin's name. Franklin issued the almanac annually from 1732 under the pen name Richard Saunders, and its calendars, astronomical tables and weather notes were later joined by the proverbs that made the series famous. Almanacs like this were among the most widely owned printed works in the colonies, often kept in a household for a full year. Its interest lies mainly in the plain typography and in what it shows of Franklin's printing house at work.
