Rather than a portrait of Franklin, this is the title page of *Poor Richard*, the almanac he published in Philadelphia from 1732 under the pen name Richard Saunders. The record dates the page to 1793 and lists a later imprint from C. Marshall in 1849, though those details come from an old caption card and have not been fully verified. Franklin died in 1790, and the almanac stayed in print long after him. Its mix of weather notes, calendar listings and proverbs made it one of the most widely read books in colonial and early American life.
