Seen from the lower Manhattan waterfront, this color poster looks out over the Upper Bay, with the dense cluster of skyscrapers rising toward the harbor. It was issued under the New York Central System name and designed by Leslie Ragan, an illustrator who worked on railroad advertising. Bird's-eye views like this were a popular way for rail companies in the 1920s to present New York as a destination, using the skyline to suggest energy and scale. The sky-high towers that dominate the composition show how quickly the financial district was growing in those years.
