Its title places the camera in an army airplane, which gives this view of the Statue of Liberty an overhead perspective rarely seen in photographs of the monument. The statue stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. It was dedicated in 1886 and given by France, and its design is credited to Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi. This negative comes from the Bain News Service, a New York picture agency that sold news photographs, and the record does not confirm the date or the exact circumstances of the flight.
