Women of the Druze community appear in this stereograph, taken in the village of Dalieh on Mount Carmel in what was then Ottoman-ruled Palestine. The Druze faith emerged from Ismaili Islam in the eleventh century, and its followers have long lived in the mountains of Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine, keeping their customs closely guarded, which helped earn them a reputation for mystery in Western accounts. Underwood & Underwood, an American firm, sold cards like this to home viewers who used stereoscopes to see the scene in depth. The caption's tags mention dance and Ramallah, so the activity and location details are unverified.
