Cattle, horses, sheep, pigs and chickens all share the frame in this color lithograph, with men tending the animals at a country fair. The print comes from the Calvert Lithographing Company of Detroit, which produced inexpensive color prints around 1895 for decoration and advertising. Fairs of that decade were the social center of rural life, where farmers judged breeds, showed their best stock and swapped news, so the scene doubles as a record of how livestock was displayed.
