Cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, and chickens crowd together in this color lithograph, with men handling the animals in what appears to be a country fair. Detroit's Calvert Lithograph Company printed it around 1895, when chromolithographs like this one were sold as wall decorations and advertising. Fairs were major social events in rural America at the time, where farmers showed off their best stock and traded news, so the scene also records the farm life of the period.
