Scott plays a traveling con artist who works the card-game hustles that give this 1967 release its title, and his name sits at the top of the poster, which was printed for a film that leaned on his star power. The film was directed by Irvin Kershner and adapted from Robert Boyle's novel, and its story of small-time swindling and rural grifting reflects a long American tradition of tales about charming tricksters. The poster's bold color work and its emphasis on card tables and sleight of hand show how studios sold such comedies to audiences in the late 1960s.
