A half-length portrait of Giacomo Puccini, shown turned to his left, this print dates from about 1907, when the Italian composer was at the height of his fame. By then he had already written *La Bohème*, *Tosca* and *Madama Butterfly*, and his operas were performed in theaters across Europe and North America. The copyright notice credits T. C. Bangs, a photographer whose studio portraits of prominent figures circulated widely in the early 1900s. The image shows the composer as audiences and publishers of the period would have known him.
