A hand-inked first-story floor plan, labeled as part of a "D series," this drawing comes from the Library of Congress's architectural and engineering holdings. Its ink and gouache rendering shows the layout of rooms and passages at ground level, and the record doesn't say which building or wing it documents. The Library's main home, the Thomas Jefferson Building, opened in 1897 in Washington, D.C., and plans like this one were used to organize its public spaces and work areas. Such drawings show how a large public institution was arranged on paper before and during construction.
