Lynde Point Light stands on a point of land where Old Saybrook meets the mouth of the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound. This view pairs the tower with the keeper's house beside it, a reminder that lights like this one were run as households as well as navigational aids, with keepers and their families living on site to tend the lamp in all hours and weather. Photographers in the middle of the twentieth century often turned to coastal lighthouses like this one as emblems of New England's seafaring past.
