The name on this glass negative is Percy Walton, recorded by the National Photo Company on the negative or its sleeve. The Library of Congress notes that the label has not been verified, so the sitter's identity should be treated as open. The plate dates to about 1921, when the Washington, D.C., firm was producing large numbers of studio and press photographs. Viewers should also expect the streaks and blemishes that the record attributes to natural deterioration of the original coating, which can affect how the image looks. Herbert A. French gave the plate to the Library in 1947.
