The Obak card, catalogued as T212, was issued by the American Tobacco Company in 1909 and tucked into cigarette packages. Its raised, embossed surface, called relief, sits over a color chromolithograph, so the image has both sheen and texture. Cards like this stiffened the packs and gave buyers something to collect, and collectors later adopted the T-number system to sort tobacco issues like this one. Today the set offers a window into how baseball was marketed in the early 1900s.
