This 1918 lithograph by the French caricaturist Abel Faivre stands out for its catalog listing of Kaiser Wilhelm II as a subject, alongside flags, which marks it as a propaganda piece aimed at the German enemy as well as at French buyers. The French government issued the Emprunt de la Libération, or Liberation Loan, in the final months of the war to fund the army and the effort to recover occupied territory. Its name pointed to that hoped-for liberation, and posters like this one urged citizens to buy bonds as a patriotic duty. Faivre, known for sharp political cartoons, brought that satirical style to the poster.
