This blue lithograph from 1917 casts a family at home as the center of a French war loan appeal, and its slogan, "Qui calcule prévoit," ties financial foresight to household responsibility: whoever plans ahead provides for himself, and whoever provides for himself subscribes to the Loan. It is signed V. Prouvé, most likely the Nancy painter and printmaker Victor Prouvé. France financed much of its World War I effort through repeated public loans, and posters like this one encouraged ordinary citizens to buy bonds as a sensible, domestic duty. The single-color blue ink gives the scene a quiet, measured tone.
