This 1946 group portrait shows members of the Library of Congress mission to Germany, with seven named staff, Manuel Sanchez, Joseph Groesbeck, Peiss, Clapp, Emerson, Toth and Mrs. Bing, plus two people who are not identified. After World War II, the Library sent such missions to Europe to survey libraries, locate scholarly materials that had been dispersed or looted, and help rebuild collections damaged by bombing. The print was presented to the Library by Richard S. Hill.
