A run of luck takes its title from the language of games and sport, where a streak of good fortune can decide a contest. Published in New York by Currier & Ives around 1870 or 1871, it belongs to the firm's large body of sporting scenes, which were made for a popular market that bought affordable prints for homes and taverns. Currier & Ives's sporting subjects, including hunting, fishing, and racing, offer a view of the leisure pursuits that interested Americans in the years after the Civil War. The print is listed in the Gale Research catalog raisonné of the firm's work as number 5698.
