Stark Peak and a waterfall anchor this view of Glacier National Park in northwestern Montana, a landscape Congress had only recently set aside as a national park in 1910. Scenic photographs like this one circulated widely in the following decade, when the Great Northern Railway and other promoters worked to draw travelers to the Rockies. The photograph was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, which suggests it was made for publication as a scenic view. Look at the rocky slopes and the falling water to see how the photographer framed a wild landscape for viewers who had not yet visited it.
