The only identifying detail on this glass negative is its title, "Cooley," and the Library of Congress notes that even this comes from unverified information written by the Bain News Service on the negative or its caption card. The record gives no date, place or subject beyond that, so the image's specifics remain uncertain. George Grantham Bain built his New York agency into one of the earliest commercial news photo services, supplying pictures of people, events and everyday life to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Its glass plates, made in the era before flexible film became standard, are valued today as a record of that period's press photography.
