Propellers mounted at the rear of the airship set this glass negative apart, showing how early dirigible builders pushed their craft through the air. The title, which names the Cooley dirigible, comes from the Bain News Service's own caption data and is unverified, and the record gives no date. George Grantham Bain founded his news photo service in New York in 1899 to supply pictures to newspapers, so images like this one were made to be reproduced quickly for readers following the new science of flight.
