A panoramic view of the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis gives a wide look at the grounds of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, which opened in Forest Park in April 1904. The fair marked the 100th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, the deal that doubled the nation's territory and was negotiated under President Thomas Jefferson, which explains why his name hangs on this board. The exposition drew millions of visitors and displayed exhibits from around the world, including the first Olympic Games held in the United States. Panoramas like this one were a popular way to show crowds and the scale of such grand fairground architecture.
