Few posters from this period were made from linoleum blocks, and this one is notable for how it was produced. Harry L. Gage cut the blocks, and his students in the printing department at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh ran them on a cylinder press, an early use of the technique for this purpose. The poster advertised a March and April 1916 exhibition of British war paintings and drawings at the Carnegie Institute and was displayed on local trolley cars. The lettering was printed over the rendering of the aviator, and no complete copy is known to survive.
