Denk an die Ludendorff-Spende für Kriegsbeschädigte!" ("Think of the Ludendorff donation for war invalids!") asks viewers to remember the men maimed in the fighting at a time when the war was being sold on victory. The Ludendorff-Spende took its name from General Erich Ludendorff, the powerful First Quartermaster General of the German army, and it was a 1917 fundraising drive for soldiers disabled in the war. By then casualties had mounted, and the campaign reflected how much the home front was asked to give, through donations as well as through war loans and the labor of daily life.
