The German title, *Der letzte Hieb ist die 8. Kriegsanleihe*, means "The final blow is the 8th War Loan," and it presents buying government bonds as a decisive push toward victory. Imperial Germany ran a series of war loan drives to pay for the fighting, and the eighth came in the autumn of 1918, when the German army was already losing ground. This color lithograph by Paul Neumann pairs the financial appeal with soldiers, linking money raised at home to the fighting at the front. It is a useful example of how wartime governments used posters to press civilians for money as well as support.
