This long, narrow panorama, measuring 7 by 44 inches, shows the pier at Long Beach, California, on the Pacific coast south of Los Angeles. Its format was well suited to the open shoreline and the pier's length, and the California Panorama Company of Los Angeles registered it for copyright on June 10, 1907. By that time Long Beach had grown into a seaside resort, and piers like this one were the center of promenading, fishing, and excursion boat traffic. Photographers recorded such views to sell as souvenirs to visitors and to boosters promoting the town.
