Printed by the Ketterlinus firm of Philadelphia in 1917, this color lithograph asks viewers to do something as small as wearing a button, and it makes that gesture its whole message. It belongs to the wartime effort to sell government bonds, when buyers of Liberty Loan issues were given lapel buttons as visible proof of their support. Wearing one turned a private financial choice into a public statement that others could see. The poster also draws on the victory sign, a motif that appears often in home-front designs of these years.
