This 1917 lithograph ties the Liberty Bond drive to the Statue of Liberty and invites viewers to wear a button as a sign of their support. The United States entered the First World War in April 1917, and the federal government financed its war effort largely by selling Liberty Bonds in campaigns known as Liberty Loans. Posters like this one urged ordinary citizens to buy bonds, and the small pins given to buyers turned patriotism into something people could wear in public. The poster was printed in Chicago by Edwards & Deutsch Litho. Co.
