King's Chapel is the Boston church whose stone walls, built in 1754, still stand on Tremont Street, and this stereograph catches it in the late 1920s, when the building was already a fixture of the city's old downtown. The church began as an Anglican congregation in the colonial period and later became Unitarian, a shift that shaped its worship and its plain, handsome interior. Keystone View Company made stereo cards like this one by the thousands, so the image was meant to be viewed through a stereoscope and gives a sense of depth that a flat print cannot. Keystone's record gives only the date and catalog number, so the exact photographer is unknown.
