Taken from a radio tower, this long panoramic print spreads the Atlantic Fleet across the harbor at Guantánamo Bay on Cuba's southeastern coast. The United States had held the bay as a naval station since a 1903 agreement with Cuba, and in the years between 1915 and 1925 it served the fleet as a base in the Caribbean. The print is part of the collection of Josephus Daniels, Secretary of the Navy from 1913 to 1921, which makes it a record of the navy's presence there during that period. Its wide, low format lets viewers take in the ships and waterfront in a single sweep.
