In full cry" is the hunting term for hounds baying loudly as they run a fox, and this lithograph puts that moment at the center of the scene. Nathaniel Currier published it in New York around 1846, when his firm was producing inexpensive lithographs of sporting and rural life for a broad public. Fox hunting with hounds was a familiar pastime in parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, and prints like this one let city buyers share in the excitement of the country chase.
