Shown in left profile, this head-and-shoulders portrait was made by the Pach studio in New York around 1913, when Roosevelt was a former president. He had left the White House in 1909 and returned to public life to run as the Progressive Party candidate in 1912. The Pach studio was a well-known New York portrait firm that photographed many public figures of the period. The profile view gives a clear outline of the face and a more composed, less candid look than many of the campaign images from those years.
