Taken in the Pach studio on Broadway in New York, this head-and-shoulders portrait shows Theodore Roosevelt facing the camera squarely, a direct pose for a man who had spent decades in the public eye. The picture is dated around August 1913, when Roosevelt was a former president who had left the White House in 1909 and had run again in 1912 as the Progressive candidate. The Pach Brothers were among the best-known portrait photographers in the city, and the blind stamp and copyright deposit mark this as a commercially circulated image of a face the public knew well.
