Reproduced in halftone from a signed drawing by Wm. Oberhardt, this head-and-shoulders portrait shows Theodore Roosevelt turned to the right. Roosevelt, who lived from 1858 to 1919 and served as president from 1901 to 1909, was among the most widely pictured Americans of his day. The halftone process broke an image into a pattern of dots so it could be printed cheaply on a press, which made portraits like this common in newspapers and magazines in the early twentieth century. The exact date of this print is uncertain, but it falls within the period when such reproductions were standard.
