Two men stand watching as a sailor hoists a flag at the New York Yacht Club's station on Oyster Bay, on Long Island's North Shore. By 1905, the North Shore was a popular summer destination for wealthy yachtsmen, and the club's harbor activity drew visitors and members alike. The photograph is part of the Frances Benjamin Johnston Collection, the work of a prominent American photographer known for her portraits and documentary views. Oyster Bay was also the home of President Theodore Roosevelt that year.
