The stone stairways and arched details on this exterior of the New York Yacht Club stand out in the record's caption tracings. The club was founded in 1844 and had long been one of the city's most prominent social and sporting institutions, and its Fifth Avenue clubhouse was a showcase of the Beaux-Arts architecture then fashionable in Manhattan. The photoprint was made by Wurts Brothers, a New York City studio that documented the city's buildings and street life around the turn of the century. The catalog's date of about 1901 is unverified, but it fits the period when the clubhouse was new.
