Hammond Court Apartments stood at 1517 30th Street Northwest in Georgetown, a Washington, D.C., neighborhood where older brick rowhouses sat alongside apartment buildings on streets that had developed over more than a century. Joseph S. Allen's photoprint, dated March 1949, shows the building in the early postwar years, when the capital's housing was filling with new residents and many older houses were being divided into apartments. The catalog entry comes from a caption card, so some details remain unconfirmed, but the picture offers a plain view of a residential block at a time of gradual change in the city.
