This lithograph carries the French title "Croix Rouge Américaine, L'Amitié des États-Unis," which points to the American Red Cross as its subject. It was printed in Paris by the Devambez firm and marked "Visa no. 12," the French wartime approval stamp that posters needed before they could circulate. The American Red Cross expanded its work in France after the United States entered the war in April 1917, running hospitals, canteens, and relief programs, and the poster's flags and medical theme reflect that partnership. The record dates it only to between 1914 and 1918, so it may belong to the war's later years, when American aid was becoming visible in France.
