A 1917 color lithograph from the Chicago firm Babcock, Walton, Spencer Co., this poster asks Americans to join the American Red Cross, with a goal of 15,000,000 members by Christmas. The United States had entered the First World War in April 1917, and the Red Cross used large enrollment drives like this one to build a mass base of civilian support for wartime relief. The blunt, hailing phrase "Come on - Join now" reflects the direct style of home-front appeals of the period.
