A German soldier's parting question gives this 1917 poster its hook: he is heading to the front and asks whether the reader has subscribed to the Sixth War Loan. Germany held nine wartime bond drives, and the sixth was launched in September 1917 to help fund a war whose costs kept mounting. Posters like this one borrowed a soldier's voice to make buying bonds feel like a duty owed to the men in the trenches. A pencil note on the lower right corner calls it an original lithograph and very rare.
